Rotating membrane flotation
RMF
With the ceramic membrane discs from KERAFOL®, a new type of flotation process has been developed:
- RMF: Rotating Membrane Flotation
In this process, pressure is applied to the membrane discs from the inside. This causes fine gas bubbles to form on the outer surface of the ceramic. The simultaneous rotation of the discs shears off the gas bubbles as they form, thereby limiting their size. The result is an extremely fine distribution of gas bubbles. Visually, this creates the “white water” effect: fine gas bubbles that remain in the liquid for a very long time.
Rotating-Diaphragm Flotation is a direct gas-injection process that allows operation directly within the medium to be treated, without the need for bypasses. This results in both structural and energy-related advantages over conventional DAF (Dissolved Air Flotation).

Applications
the Rotating Membrane Flotation
- Flotation: The efficiency of flotation processes is significantly increased by the use ofKERAFOL® discs. The finely dispersed gas bubbles accelerate the aggregation of dispersed particles, resulting in more effective separation. The gas bubbles are generated directly in the medium at the membrane surface (no pressure-relief flotation).
- Ozonation: The microporous ceramic membranes allow ozone to be introduced into liquids with great efficiency. The extremely finely dispersed gas bubbles remain in the liquid for a very long time, resulting in very low ozone losses.
- Introduction of oxygen: In combination with oxygen, this results in advantageous applications in the areas of fish farming and aquaristics.
- CO2 injection: When gassing withCO2, no more bubbles are visible with the rotating ceramic membrane disks - theCO2 goes directly into solution.
